Celine Dion makes surprise appearance at Grammys 2024 as she battles stiff person syndrome

Celine Dion made a triumphant return to the Grammys Sunday amid her debilitating battle with stiff person syndrome.

The music legend, 55, received a standing ovation while her song “The Power of Love” played as she took the stage at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles to present the award for album of the year to Taylor Swift.

“When I say that I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart,” she said while dressed in a light-colored gown that was concealed with a large tan coat and accessorized with a sparkly necklace.

“Those who have been blessed enough to be here at the Grammy Awards must never take for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives and to people all around the world.”

Dion’s surprise appearance was the Grammys’ best kept secret, as it had not been previously reported.

However, once music’s biggest night commenced, a video of the “My Heart Will Go On” singer arriving at the venue hit social media.

“Celine Dion is in the building for the #Grammys with stylist Law Roach,” the Hollywood Reporter tweeted.

Dion has been out of the limelight in recent years as she attempts to heal from her neurological disorder, which is a rare, chronic condition that causes muscle stiffness and painful muscle spasms.

The six-time Grammy winner revealed she was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in December 2022.

“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through,” she said amid tears in a video posted on social media at the time.

“Recently I have been diagnosed with a very rare neurological syndrome, which affects something like one in a million people.”

Dion had begun to experience symptoms as early as October 2021, when she shared she had to postpone her Las Vegas residency because of “severe” muscle spasms.

The “I’m Alive” singer then also canceled her North American tour and postponed her European tour.

Dion told her fans in her social media clip just how heartbroken she was to not be able to hit the stage.

“All I know is singing,” she previously said. “It’s what I’ve done all my life, and it’s what I love to do the most.”

In November 2023, Dion gave a glimmer of hope that she was on the mend by making her first public appearance in nearly four years.

The “All by Myself” singer went to an NHL game at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with her son René-Charles, 23, and 13-year-old twins, Eddy and Nelson.

However, Dion’s sister shared a month later just how much the superstar had struggled with her health, claiming to the Daily Mail that her famous sibling had “lost control of her muscles.”

As part of Dion’s major comeback Sunday, stylist Law Roach also made a grand return.

He was seen accompanying the “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” singer at Crypto.com Arena in the viral social media clip after teasing on Instagram, “One nite only!!!!!……” alongside a name tag that said, “Hello. I am …. unretired.”

Roach, 45, announced his retirement from fashion in March 2023 due to the “politics” and “lies.”
