I use old produce as a natural Botox to stay wrinkle-free – it’s full of vitamins and makes my skin feel incredible

  • Kendall Rae K, from Texas, claimed frozen cucumber was her ‘natural Botox’
  • She alleged that cucumber fended off inflammation and helped prevent waste
  • DailyMail.com spoke to three dermatologists who revealed if it REALLY worked

A woman on TikTok has boasted about her unusual technique to keep wrinkles away, claiming to use frozen cucumber as a form of ‘natural Botox.’

Kendall Rae Kahn, 28, explained that she started employing the method after she saw someone else make a video about it, alleging it helped with inflammation and prevented her from ‘forgetting’ about the cucumbers she had in the fridge.

But dermatologists have shared their skepticism about the alleged beauty hack, telling DailyMail.com that cucumber should definitely not be viewed as a replacement for the real thing.

In her recently resurfaced clip, which was originally posted in January, the content creator, from Texas, showed off how she used the frozen piece of cucumber and laid out the so-called methodology behind it.

‘About nine times out of 10 that I buy cucumbers, I forget that I have them and I end up throwing them away,’ Kendall told her viewers.

‘So, I actually came across this video that said cucumbers are really good for your skin, and for inflammation, and full of vitamins and it is actually a natural Botox.’

Botox, short for ‘botulinum toxin,’ is an injection made from neurotoxins, which work to weaken the muscles in the face or other parts of the body, according to the Cleveland Clinic

Not only can it be used to smooth and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but it can also be used to treat migraines and other plights.

‘From now on, instead of throwing away the cucumbers that I forget about in the fridge, I’m going to freeze them, which is what I did earlier. I peeled… cut them in halves and freeze them,’ Kendall said.

The creator revealed that she was going to apply the frozen cucumbers after she used her ice roller, a beauty tool that works to combat facial puffiness.

She claimed that when she used the cucumber earlier that day, her skin was ‘so soft’ and the smell was heavenly.

‘Natural Botox cucumber, full of vitamins, helps with inflammation, and when I’m done, I’m just going to cut off the end and put it back in the freezer for tomorrow,’ she said.

‘I will not be wasting anymore cucumbers, I can promise you that,’ Kendall vowed.

But it looks like Kendall isn’t the only one to have used cucumbers to achieve some healthy skin benefits.

What do the experts say? Dermatologists weigh in on ‘natural Botox

  • Frozen cucumbers are definitely not a replacement for the real thing, multiple dermatologists have told DailyMail.com
  • Despite some popular belief, there is no substitution for Botox
  • ‘Using cucumbers on the skin is unlikely to be dangerous, but it won’t give Botox-like results,’ Dr. Lindsey Zubritsky said

In March, one TikTok user named Nikki tried out the method, as well as another named Alyssa Michelle, who promised to keep viewers updated.

However, according to multiple board-certified dermatologists, using cucumbers in place of Botox does not work, and it’s certainly not a replacement for the real thing.

‘Cucumbers cannot be used as “natural Botox” and do not exert any neuromodulator effects on the muscle,’ Texas-based dermatologist Dr. Jean Charles told DailyMail.com.

‘Botox works by blocking presynaptic release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction causing temporary paralysis of the affected muscle,’ she continued.

Dr. Lindsey Zubritsky, also known as the popular @dermguru on TikTok, agreed with Dr. Charles.

‘Using cucumbers on the skin is unlikely to be dangerous, but it won’t give Botox-like results,’ Zubritsky, who practices in Mississippi, told DailyMail.com. ‘If you want to use cucumbers for the skin, be sure to have realistic expectations on what it can and cannot accomplish.’

Dr. Zubritsky explained that although the frozen veg was not a replacement for Botox, it could have some ‘minor benefits’ on the skin, like aiding in inflammation, as Kendall mentioned in the video clip.

Kendall also claimed that the cucumbers help with inflammation and that they smell great while applying it (stock image)

‘The coolness helps to constrict blood vessels,’ Dr. Zubritsky said.

‘Cucumbers are also quite hydrating and contain vitamin K, which can both help to moisture the skin and improve blood circulation while reducing dark circles.’

What is Botox?

  • Botox, short for ‘botulinum toxin,’ is an injection made from neurotoxins
  • The injection works to weaken the muscles at the site, and can improve the appearance of wrinkles
  • Not only can Botox be injected into one’s face, but it can also go in other body parts, like the hands

However, because of this, the cucumbers can help give a temporary solution, but it’s definitely not a replacement for the injection.

‘Cucumbers naturally have hydrating, soothing, and anti inflammatory ingredients and can certainly improve skin hydration and thereby temporarily reduce fine lines,’ Minnesota-based dermatologist Dr. Jenny Liu told DailyMail.com.

If you’re still looking for something a little bit more natural to smooth out the skin that’s not a Botox injection, it’s extremely important to use sunscreen, all three dermatologists advised.

‘There are no good “natural remedies” for Botox,’ Dr. Charles said.

‘But if you don’t want to do Botox, having a consistent skincare routine consisting of sunscreen and retinoids can help with fine lines & wrinkles.’

In addition, Dr. Liu suggested using a retinoid, Vitamin C serum and peptides.
