How many trophies can Man City win in 2023/24?

2022/23 may have taken a lot out of Manchester City, but they must come again!

History would suggest they will. Pep Guardiola has led his teams to the league title in all but three seasons since he took the Barcelona job in 2008. The Spaniard’s relentless striving for success culminated in the second treble of his career last season as Man City lifted the Champions League for the very first time.

However, the Cityzens now have another chance to write themselves into the history books in 2023/24. There are an ample supply of trophies on offer for Guardiola’s men.

Despite missing out on the Community Shield, Man City could win six trophies in 2023/24 and complete the sextuple.

Guardiola’s side are once again favourites for the Premier League title, although no team has ever won four-straight league titles in English football history, and will be tipped for success in both the FA and EFL Cups.

City won just their second FA Cup of the Guardiola era last season, and have won four EFL Cups since the Spaniard took the reins.

Retaining the Champions League will be mightily difficult, although City currently sit among the favourites. Only Real Madrid have won back-to-back Champions Leagues since the competition’s reformation in 1992.

Alongside these four trophies, City can also win the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup this season. They take on Europa League winners Sevilla in the Super Cup on Wednesday, while the Club World Cup will take place just before Christmas in Saudi Arabia. Both Chelsea and Liverpool have won this competition since 2020.

Man City are vying to become just the third team in football history to win the sextuple.

Several great teams have come ever so close to lifting six trophies in a single season, including Louis van Gaal’s Ajax, Jose Mourinho’s Inter, Luis Enrique’s MSN-inspired Barca and Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid, but only two have ascended the mountain.

Guardiola, in fact, became the first-ever manager to oversee a sextuple triumph in 2009 during his first season as Barcelona manager. They lifted the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Bayern, who won five trophies under Jupp Heynckes in 2013, then lifted the sextuple in 2020. While Hansi Flick is largely responsible for their magical season, he wasn’t in charge at the start of the 2019/20 campaign – shoutout to Niko Kovac. Nevertheless, along with the international titles, Bayern also won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup.
