Joao Felix explains difference between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid

Joao Felix has cited style of play as the key difference between Barcelona and his former club Atletico Madrid.

The talented forward joined Barcelona on loan from Atletico on deadline day of the summer transfer window, bringing an end to what had been a difficult spell at the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano.

Atleti forked out a club record £113m to sign Felix from Benfica back in 2019, but the Portugal international largely failed to impressed during his time at the club – failing to hit double figures in any of his four seasons in Madrid.

Having made his self-professed “dream” move to Barcelona, Felix has already shown signs of improved form at the Catalan club, scoring three goals in his first six games in all competitions including two in the UEFA Champions League win over Royal Antwerp.

Speaking to the press ahead of Barca’s next Champions League game – against Porto – Felix was asked about the differences between life at his new club and Atleti.

“As I have said several times, the difference between Barcelona and Atletico can be seen in everything, in the team, the club. We can see the way Barcelona play compared to Atletico. It is not bad, but I have adapted better to the way that Barcelona plays. Now I’m happy and it’s the most important thing,” he said.

“Barcelona is a big club, everyone knows their way of playing. I’ve adapted very well, but the most difficult thing is to keep this level up.”

Felix has previously admitted that he believes that “everything is easier” at Barcelona than it was at Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone too, telling Mundo Deportivo after scoring in a 5-0 win over Real Betis: “I am working to be at the best level. There is a very good environment here, I am one more to help and with these players everything is easier.

“The change has been good for me, I am very happy and I hope to help the team as much as I can.”
