Juventus ‘ready €40m offer’ for rumoured Liverpool target

Juventus are preparing a €40m bid to prise Liverpool-linked Teun Koopmeiners away from Atalanta, according to a new report.

The Dutch international has emerged as one of the best midfielders in Serie A over the last two seasons, contributing ten goals and four assists during 2022/23 and following that up with five goals and three assists thus far this campaign.

Koopmeiners’ impressive record has unsurprisingly caught the attention of a number of top clubs around Europe. Reports in Italy from Gazzetta dello Sport (via TeamTalk) state that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is pushing for the club to make a move for Koopmeiners before the January transfer window closes.

The Reds are said to be readying an offer worth around €45m to sign Koopmeiners, having already spent big on signing Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister prior to the start of the 2023/24 season.

But another interested party, Juventus, are understood to be preparing an offer of their own. Gianluca Di Marzio state that a €40m plus performance related add-ons will be launched at the end of the season, amid ongoing uncertainty over the long-term future of Adrien Rabiot. Juve are also without Nicolo Fagioli and Paul Pogba, who are serving bans for betting and doping breaches respectively.

Speaking recently to Calciomercato, Koopmeiners’ agent confirmed Juventus’ interest in his client’s services, revealing that he had previously talked with current Juve sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.

“Yes, I know he is very admired by Juventus. I already talked to Giuntoli when Teun was still playing for AZ Alkmaar,” he said. “However, there has not been contact lately. The two clubs would have to talk to each other first.

“I am sure that he is able to be successful anywhere he goes, because his quality and mentality offers so much to any team. For now, he really enjoys playing and living in Italy, but we never know what the future may hold. The only thing I know is that Teun’s future will be bright.”
